About
mynameisphil Philip's main passion is graphic design and illustration. Since his childhood he has been drawing with anything there was to hand. Later, as a teenager, he decided he wanted to be a computer games designer, which helped him really focus on his graphic design and art classes at school, which he enjoyed immensely. At the age of 15 he was very much into computers and gained valuable work experience at a digital animation and design business in Gilesgate, County Durham. He was taught the basics of using new programs such as Discreet's 3D Studio Max™ (version 4 at the time) as well as Adobe's Photoshop™ and Premiere™. This gave him the urge to teach himself further with each of the programs using tutorials and books from the local libraries, giving him much more scope and experience for college. He also worked on a few game modifications with overseas development teams via the internet later for the likes of Half-Life 2™ and Unreal Tournament 2004™. By the time college came around, he knew he needed a Diploma in an art orientated subject to get onto the computer games design course. Firstly choosing Art and Design at New College Durham, but after a few weeks of not enjoying it very much, he settled in favour of Graphic Design instead. His work on the course was greatly influenced by cd covers, music artworks and of course music itself. He started creating his first digital artworks, almost instantly, it turned into a real passion. After finishing the Diploma, he loved graphic design so much he decided that was the right career for him. Going on later to study a Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design at New College Durham, and graduating in 2008 with a BA (Hons) Graphic Design at the University of Sunderland. At the start of 2009 he created an online portfolio of works alongside his new freelance design project called "mynameisphil". Philip is available for commisioned works and collaborations. |
